90's Reborn ‘013

After more than a decade, "Generation Y" is slowly showing its former glory on the fashion scene in 0’13. Of course it will never be the same. Technology has changed and besides that - Hillary Duff is no longer Lizzy McGuire, The Rug Rats have all grown and the young baby faced Di’Caprio is now Mr.Gatsby.

I used to keep reminding my mom that the 90’s were never coming back anytime soon and that she should keep her tiny tight fit tops and ketch denim jackets at the back of her closet. Anyways I was quite wrong because as soon as I go home for June break, I’m going to go retro crazy in her closet. Thanks mom.

Dolce and Gabanna Spring/Summer 2013 RTW

"Sea, Sun and Love" is the name of which symbolises Dolce&Gabanna's new commercial collection for woman. The bold, romantic collection presented itself on the stage of Milan Fashion Week and is an ode to Dolce's native island of "Sicily"

The entire collection itself is reminiscent to a "fifties post card vibe" with brightly printed bandanna headscarves to raffia sandals and kitten-heeled wrinklepickers - so simple, yet so graphic.  A-line dresses floated around the model's bodies as evocative pencil skirt sundresses and lampshade skirts made its way across the runway in an airy satin organza. Silk cloques, wide cut tunic tops with puff-ball beach rompers also revealed itself throughout the show.

Bold-stripes with a hand painted look have always been a wardrobe essential, and we here see it back on the stage after Prada's S/S 11 collection. Many colours were seen and used in this collection though the palette of tomato, ultramarine and white where a dramatic foil to fanciful folklore and prints.

The designers took the islands remarkable handicraft and worked them in sophisticated ways. Classic ceramic planters shaped like turbaned heads, which are a speciality of the romantic hilltop of Taormina were incorporated into lively coloured prints or dangled as chic earrings.

This collection definitely takes us back to warm summer days spent patterning around cobbled stones and dining out at small Italian cafes with printed table cloths.

Under The Sea

Dip dying those flowing locks to make it look like something off a magical sea creature is a trend that has made a splash since 2010. From the runway and red carpet to the ocean, mermaid hair is a must!

Downtown with Downton

1.) David Downton, England

With his incredibly chic and spontaneous paintings, this is the artist behind some of the most iconic illustrations and advertisements in fashion history. Starting of as a commercial illustrator and paving his way into paris couture shows where he really began to explore fashion - left him with an effortless and groundbreaking edge to capture the essence and spirit of women and fashion like no other image maker before him. His images are all over the media: in books, in magazines, on billboards, on the walls of illustration students’ bedrooms and hell, if you type in fashion illustrations on "google images" - his is one of the first things you'll see. He uses materials such as Rotring ink, gouache, watercolour, oil sticks and occasionally acrylics to create his elegant and yet radiant effect.
